Dr. Maria Gibson


I am originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I practiced law for 10 years. Ohio, the heart of it all, has been my home state for the past 20 years. Nursing is my second career, which I have built on my law and ethics background foundation. I hold a Bachelor in Law from Brazil and a Master in Law from Cleveland State University.  I received my basic nursing education at Case Western Reserve University through an intensive graduate program. I obtained a Master in Science of Nursing and a PhD in Higher Education Administration from University of Phoenix. I hold a certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing, and Legal Nurse Consultant.

Dr. Maureen Mitchell


Dr. Mitchell has served in executive management positions in public health at the city and county level in Ohio and has consulted internationally on developing higher education programs in medicine and nursing in Central and Eastern Europe and the newly independent states of the former Soviet Union.  She has served as an independent consultant, operating a consulting firm meeting the needs of major health systems in Ohio and St. Petersburg, Russia, primarily in the areas of strategic planning, program design, implementation and evaluation.

Dr. Joan Niederriter


I taught at the University of Akron for 2 years in the nursing department.  I taught older adult clinicals.  I have been with Cleveland State University since 2001 teaching sophomore, junior and senior level courses in medical, surgical, and cardiac clinical settings and Pathophysiology, assessment, framework and older adult diadactic courses.  I have worked at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation since I graduated in 1994 in various positions.

Dr. Margaret Toukonen


Meg Toukonen joined the faculty at Cleveland State University in 2004. She earned her doctorate in nursing from Kent State University. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, Meg has worked at several mental health facilities in both community and acute care settings. With a background and previous degree in Animal Science, she has combined her interest in people and in animals to develop the focus of her research looking at the human-animal bond and therapeutic work with animals. In the community, Meg facilitates pet-loss and bereavement services.  Meg is also the Cleveland Area Network Leader for the American Holistic Nurses Association.

Dr. Jaqueline Robinson

Jacqueline Robinson PhD, MBA, MSN, ACNS-BC, RN, CCRN, CHSE is currently an Associate Professor of Nursing and Director of the Shaughnessy Center for Innovation and Education at Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio. She is responsible for the direction of nursing resource laboratory activities and simulation activities for the division of nursing. Her teaching activities include Pathophysiology/Pharmacology, Medical Surgical Nursing and Critical Care. Dr. Robinson has been in higher education for over 25 years teaching in the classroom, laboratory and clinical setting in ADN programs, BSN programs, accelerated BSN programs and graduate programs. In addition to her full time duties at Notre Dame College she also holds adjunct positions at Case Western Reserve University and was one of the founding faculty in the Patient Advocacy Certificate program at Cleveland State University. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Toledo, her Master of Science in Nursing from Kent State University and is also a Board Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist. She received her Master of Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace University and has experience as a Nurse Manager and also in Quality Management, having published in that area. Her doctoral work focused on student success and is her passion, completing her Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education from the University of Toledo. Despite her love of education, she is still a practicing nurse working as a critical care float nurse at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
